Beotnamu

When I first arrived in February, Erma's mom suggested that I come visit the first weekend in April, when the cherry trees (beotnamu 벚나무) would be at their peak.

She was right. Yesterday, the day we went hiking on Namsan was the peak moment of bloom. Today a few petals were just starting to fall. Erma's dad and I took a stroll through a beautiful park not far from their apartment to admire the scenery. It was full of lovers and families out strolling and picnicking. Here are a few photos.

I can't remember if the cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. look this white and soft.

This tree is a different species -- possibly a weeping cherry tree (shidarezakura しだれざくら in Japanese).
